Camosun Bog History

History of the Camosun Bog.

A long arctic winter over southern British Columbia around 25,000 years ago left the land completely bare and lifeless, but as the weather warmed life began to grow back and the camosun bog became a thriving ecosystem. More sediment from neighbouring streams filled the lake until it formed a swamp (this happened around 5,000 years ago). Sedges and fast growing grasses grew all around the bog encouraging organisms to inhabit this environment. The bog began to change due to human interaction within the last 90 years.
